[2005-12-01] Libya - Changes in Filing Requirements for Trademark ApplicationsAccording to a statement by the Registrar of Trademarks in the Libyan Ministry of Economy and Trade, a certified copy of the certificate of registration in the home country or any foreign country is sufficient for the registration of trademarks in Libya.
A legalized copy of the certificate of registration in the home country is no longer required.
Below the requirements for filing trademark applications in Libya:
1: A Power of Attorney singed, notarized and legalized up to the Libyan Consulate.
2: An extract of the entry of the applicant company in the Commercial Register legalized up to the Libyan Consulate.
3: Now only a photocopy of home or any foreign registration with no need for legalization.
4: The Name, address, nationality, and business of the applicant.
5: 10 prints of the trademark.
Notes:
1: All documents should be submitted upon filing.
2: All documents should be translated into Arabic.
3: A separate application is to be filed for each class of goods/services.
4: One Power of Attorney and one Extract are sufficient for filing any number of trademarks in the name of the same owner.
5: Classification: 8th Edition of Nice Classification except for alcoholic drinks under Class 33.
