Designs are registered in approximately three months if all the documentation has been completed. Patents are registered in approximately four years.

The term of protection of a patent is 20 years. In order to maintain a patent or patent application, it is necessary to pay annual fees.

The term of protection of a design is 5 years. Their period of protection may be extended to two additional periods of five years.

In the Dominican Republic, it is possible to file multi-class applications as well as single-class applications.

It is not necessary that the mark be in use in our country in order to obtain registration. However, the mark should be put into use in order to obtain its renewal.
